Eshraq was established in Abu Dhabi in 2006 as a private joint stock company with a capital of AED1 billion and became a public joint stock company in 2011. The share capital was later increased in 2014 to reach AED2.325 billion

In December 2017, the Executive Council of the emirate of Abu Dhabi granted Eshraq by decree the right to own land and real estate properties in the emirate. The decision marked a turning point for Eshraq’s long term growth plans, allowing it to significantly expand its footprint across Abu Dhabi, while also permitted to have up to 49% foreign shareholder base.
